Professor: Chair of Physics
Applications are invited for appointment as Professor: Chair of Physics in the Department of Physics, tenable from September 1, 2002 or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment will initially be made on a fixed-term basis of three years, with the possibility of renewal, or substantiation under special circumstances.
The mission of the Department of Physics is to become the top research-doctorate physics department in Asia and an outstanding research-doctorate department in the world. The current research areas is the department include: surface science, crystal growth by molecular beam epitaxy; superconductivity and magnetism (both theoretical and experimental); transport properties in mesoscopic and nanoscopic systems; semi-conductor and positron-semi-conductor physics, positron beam technoloty; thin film technoloty of superconductors and semi-conductor samples; optical characterization of novel nanostructure materials; theoretical astrophysics; supernova observations; quantum information theories; environmental radioactivity. Applicants should have strong academic qualifications, a substantial record of research and publications in the area of condensed-matter physics and enthusiastic about teaching.
The University reserves the right not to fill the post or to fill the post by invitation or to make an appointment at a level as appropriate.
Annual salary [attracting contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary] will be within the professorial range, which is not less than HKD1.2M+ with starting salary depending on qualifications and experience. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. Leave, medical / dental benefits, and a taxable financial subsidy under the Home Financing will be available to the successful candidate.
